Why Seal Your Floor?

Slate is one of the most durable building materials on earth and can gain strength over time. In fact, many ancient structures still stand today that were formed using slate blends centuries ago. But even with its long service life, slate is still subject to deterioration and can lose its texture as time passes. As well as pavement cleaning, we recommend slate floors in households, commercial businesses and warehouses should be sealed to protect against contaminants that erode or stain the composition of the flooring.

When exposed to traffic or other weathering elements such as chemicals, the components in slate start to separate. Sealers cover exposed surfaces, shielding them from damage and making them easier to clean and maintain. The purpose of a sealer is to protect the surface against dirt, staining and wear, whilst keeping the surface looking like new and maintaining the value of your home. The sealer does this by forming a protective film that enhances the floor’s appearance.

Cleaning Slate Floors

Cleaning slate tiles and pavement can present some tricky challenges which vary depending on the type of slate being cleaned. Before cleaning, a paving cleaner will test the surface to ensure our cleaning product will not damage or discolour your floor. Acidic based products have the potential to damage your floors, which is why we choose to incorporate non-solvent, water-based solutions in all of our high performing products. To book pavement cleaning in Melbourne please give us a call.

For porous stones and paving, there are many different types of impregnating and topical sealers that are used to seal the surface. If the tile appears to have a topical sealer on it then the sealer needs to be stripped off before any cleaning process can begin. It is also helpful to find out the type of sealer or wax that the floor was previously sealed with to be able to use the right product when stripping it.
